Farmall M Carb Question-Packing for Fuel Meter

I'm in the process of rebuilding the carb for my Farmall M, but the NAPA carb kit doesn't appear to have new packing for the fuel adjusting screw. It has a felt washer, but I'm pretty sure that's the seal for the choke shaft. Should the kit have come with new packing?

Unfortunately, I've already dug out the old packing from the bowl casting figuring that it would come with the kit. For future reference, should the packing be reused?

I've got the part numbers 67266DA or 24703DA and will try the Case-IH dealer to see if I can just get the packing.

The high speed mmixture packing can be re-used. The felt washer is for the choke shaft; it is not easy to put the felt in without removal of the retainer. Retainers are available from IH since you will likely ruin the original while taking it out.

Yes, your Case-IH dealer will have that packing at a price of about 4 to 5 dollars each. The dealer is the only place I have found to get just the packing. The Tisco kits that I sell do include that packing.

Wayne, how can you reuse that packing? You cannot remove it without wrecking it, and leaving it in place while the carb is soaking in the cleaner will also do significant damage. If you do not replace it, I can just about guarantee it will leak.

I've got a Case-IH brand carb kit for my 300 Utility at home that I've not used yet. Would the same packing be used in that carb? I'd rob it from that kit for now and get more the next time I'm at the dealership.
