Cork? H crankcase

You guys have been very helpful over the years; I hope one day I'll be more on the "give" than the "get" side.

I'm doing a ring & bearing job on a 1943 H

on the bottom right edge of the block,is a hole which seems to be filled with a cork (or oil impregnated something). Parts manual calls it a "locating hole plug".

What's it for? Should it be renewed or tossed or left alone?

Thanks

A lot of un-used bolt holes on tractor are filled with cork so as to save the treads and also keep them clean and dirt free so when used they can be with out fighting to put a bolt in
