Farmall 504 Hydraulic Failure Woes...

I have lost all hydraulic pressure to my remotes but still have power-steering and 3 point lift functions. Since I have these two functions, both pumps must be working. I was not operating the tractor but the operator said he actuated a remote valve and heard a "pop" then the remotes quit.

I looked at the tractor and pulled the check balls from the remotes and they appeared to be fine. The only two points I know to look at are the relief valve under the seat and the power-steering flow divider on the LH steering column.

In the morning (July 15)I am going to try to get the hydraulics to atleast get the loader off the ground so I can get it on the trailer. I am also going to change the hydraulic pump in the field since I have a new one if I fail to find a failure in the flow divider or relief valve.

Any help from the GURUS would be appriciated.

PS: I will take my laptop and cellular modem in case someone post the fix or I need help.

Thanks in advance,
Charles

I thought that I could hear a slight change in engine load when I cycled the remotes at low idle. Nope, nada, nothing.

I am half way there! Sure nuff' I got to digging and probing around and found the relief valve on the remote valve inlet block. It is at the lower left corner, just like ya'll said. I just overlooked it the 1st time and the tractor was clean. It is hot as hell at 4pm in Louisiana (bout 98-100 degrees) and I am about to tear into this beast and somehow will get it on the trailer tonight!

Thanks guys, I will give an update tonight. Charles.

I "backed my ears" and removed the quadrent cover, both hydraulic remote valves, and the remote manifold to get to the pilot relief valve. It appears someone had been there before by the hammer marks on the head of the relief head (it was 1 1/8"). Cleaned it out, full of sludge. Also I found a check valve between the manifold and tractor housing, cleaned this as well. Crossed my fingers and put it all back together without new orings (lack of availability). I'll be derned, it worked and leaks less than before!! I need to re-oring the manifold. Also I am going to replace the relief in the future, it has serious oring wear.

I did not change the pump. After my 4 hour repair on the relief, I put 4 brand new tires and wheels on my trailer (Ford 6600 and loader makes a great floor jack) and loaded Old Red up. About 1.5 hours later and 12:30am this morning I made it home. 4:00am got up went to work, 6:00pm I got home... It has been a long one.

Thanks again, I appoligize for not posting progress pics. Ya'll know I like to post pics 8)
