Buddy of mine gave me what looks like a char lynn . He took it off a 504 . but what puzzles me is that it has 4 hoses that comes out of it. shaft is splines @ one end & steering is bolted on input shaft . I would like to use it as a char lynn to add a power steering to my old oliver 66,but can i ? I know there should be an in & out ,but what are the other 2 ? I am not very familliar with farmall , Your info would be greatly appreciated . thanks

I've got a Char-Lynn torque motor for a tractor that was in our 1974 International 200 pickup when we bought it. It has IN and OUT Outlets, that is 2, I've never seen or heard of 4 outlets. Does it look like it was made that way or did someone change it that way? Could you post a picture?

Andy.

Did it come off a 504 with a tricycle or wide front?
IIRC they are different. Tricycle uses a torque generator with only two lines in the steering shaft. BTDT not long ago. Wide front or maybe it is the utilities that have full hydrostatic steering and use a steering valve with 4 ports, in, out, 2 to the steering cylinder. Hope this helps.

sorry i cant give you a pic . Spoke with buddy , says its from a wide front end . Took a better look at it ,one port is in, other is out,the 2 others says c1 & c2 . It looks alot like a char lynn or is it only a valve ? also on the 4 ports ,1 block bolts directly over them to bring the oil .does anybody got pics of theirs ? just to compare to what i got . thanks & wish i could give you more info.

I do not have my F504D at my house right now, but I know mine was a tri-cycle later converted to a Speeco (I think) WFE. The tri-cycle steering was retained and the WFE uses the existing setup. It has lines going in/out the "hand-pump" at the steering wheel and two lines go to the front to a power-steering oil cooler. The actual steering gearbox is manual with amplified torque comming from the hand-pump thru the steering shaft. Maybe the C1 and C2 is the supply and return from the cooler.

I think the power steering hydraulic circuit goes something like this: From main pump to the flow divider, then to the hand pump, then to the cooler, then from the cooler, then back to the sump. Some of the "Old Salts" here can correct me if I am wrong, but that is a total of 4 ports.

These are pics of the WFE and the tie-rod to steering arrangement.

Got carried away, sorry for all the pictures. Captain Morgan and I set sail a few hours ago.

If I can be of further help, drop me a line. I have been all over my F504D and have learned a lot of ways NOT to do things
