Farmall B Distributor Shaft

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for replacing the dist. shaft on a B w/ battery ignition? I changed the points and noticed alot of side-side slop in the shaft. I'm pulling what's left of my hair out trying to get the points set right.

The distributor shaft is probably as worn as the bushing. I have had luck using a longer replacement bushing (about 1/4") from Motion industries, or NAPA, to ride on a unworn part of the shaft. This causes the bushing to stick out to the rear of the distributor (forward on tractor). Safe tactic, and easy. Clean things up, press out the bearing, and install the new one, Keep things organized. JimN
