Lights stay on MTA even when switch is off

Hello,
I have an MTA that had the cap fall off on the fuse holder while trailering home from a show. This spring when I went to start the tractor I found the cap on the base by the battery box. I put a fuse in and the cap on and the lights came on no matter what position the light switch is in they stay on. Never had this problem before. Is it simply that he switch went bad somehow over the winter. Tractor is stored inside. Wiring was redone a year ago by the guy who painted the tractor but there was no problem after he rewired the tractor until now. Thanks in advance.

Pull the cover and look inside the switchbox. I'd bet critters, either the furry kind or the winged kind got to the wiring or the switch.

The lights worked normally before you lost the fuse cap?

or,

Didn't you ever try the lights before this?

Either its wired wrong, or the switch is bad. Shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. The light switch access is extremely convenient, and there should only be three wires to deal with:

1. Wire coming from fuse.
2. Wire going to front lights.
3. Wire going to rear light.

Once you take the cover off the electrical box on the steering post, if there are any short circuits external to the switch, or a miswired switch, it should be pretty obvious.

My opinion is that the rewire may have gone a bit wrong. The lights stayed on at the place it was rewired. The person never fixed the issue, they took out the fuse! This leaves the little cap loose in its bayonet mount. It fell out and there you are! Good luck, simple fix as noted below! JimN
