I just got a Farmall super A and I'm a newbe to this..The guy I got it from said it was a 3 point hitch...I'm think it's a 2 pt. I have just 2 bars extending out the back. hydrolic yes. and a drawbar. The pto shaft is offset to the left looking from the back. I have the orig manual I belive its a 1951 or so. question is looking to use stanard 3 pt hitch attachements? Can I? how does the shaft not being in the middle work? do I need to get a conversion kit to make it a 3pt hitch? I have a pic I can email Thanks for you help

Greg,

2 bars extending from WHERE? If they're just extending from the fenders, that is the rear rockshaft for lifting cultivators and other A-specific rear-mounted implements.

If these two bars extend from brackets on the axle housings, and connect via chains or linkages to the rear rockshaft, then you have a homemade or aftermarket 3pt hitch. Only these two lift arms are permanently attached to the tractor on a 3pt. system.

The third point, called a top link, is an adjustable bar that attaches to a bracket above and between the lift arms on the back of the tractor.

I suspect the seller was either an idiot or lying to you. You probably just have a rear rockshaft. I've seen several Super A/100/130/140 tractors on craigslist recently claiming 3pt hitch, but the rear views all show a standard rear rockshaft and drawbar.

You can add an aftermarket 3pt hitch from a company called Worksaver, but it has limited usefulness. With the high offset PTO, there are not many PTO-driven 3pt implements that will work.

Thanks for the info....They are connected to the axle housing and yes chains used to connect the uplift. What kinds of pto implements are avalible for this offset pto? I uploaded a pic on the comunity pic of the rear view....

Greg,

Dont know what that thing is off the draw bar but it isnt a three point setup.

The main use of the SA is small to medium gardens. You can get a 101 planter and a 179 or 180 planter to go along with the 144 cultivator and your all set to garden. You can get lots of other things like a belly mower, plows, snow blade, etc.

Hugh is an expert with the three point on these Super A's so if you decide to add one then get in touch with him. I dont see a lot of advantage adding a three point unless your wanting a brush hog and then I might try and find a fast hitch instead of the three point.

Thanks...The thing off the back is a homemade grader blade. Works pretty well. Where might I find a fast hitch and a brush hog that will work with the offset pto? How might I get a hold of Hugh?
thanks again! I found a local guy that has a sickle bar and bottom plow for this SA. It already has a front bucket. It's a great little tractor and I'm looking forward to putting her to work. Small 3-4 arce garden. Greg

If all you want is a bush-hog, you can get a trailer type that pulls from the drawbar and will work with the PTO. Howse has one in their economy line, the 400SAC/500SAC, it bolts to the draw bar and lifts with chains, much like your blade. You remove the two pivot bolts in the drawbar so the bar can float up and down. Be sure to add an overrunning coupler to the PTO so the momentum from the blades won't push you around. You can get that from most any implement dealer. See the link below.

Thanks. This is what I'm looking for. Do you just mount it offset on the draw bar to line up with the offset shaft?

Greg

we've got a super a that came with a homemade 3 pt. that was about useless. The tractor was kind of rough and the crankshaft broke while using it, so we just parked it and moved on. A 3 pt. on an offset cultivating tractor is kind of defeating the purpose of the tractor.

Do you just mount it offset on the draw bar to line up with the offset shaft?

No, you mount it in the center. The shaft has universal joints, so it can run at an angle. I use one similar to that on a Farmall 100 (newer Super A) and it is fine running at an angle.
