hi i have a farmall M and i cant seem to get it to run right. I'm prety sure its in the carb because u can just smell the gas when its running. it sounds like its too rich but i cant seam to get it set right. pulled the plugs and the two middle ones are pretty wet while other two are black. hope someone can help i'm going through the gas pretty fast lol thanks

Have you checked to see if the choke is partially closed? Not the choke lever/choke rod but the actual butterfly valve in the carb. You'll have to take the breather hose off the look in there. Also tighten the bolts that hold the carb to the manifold and the bolts that hold the two halves of the carb together. those are the simpleist things to try first. Oh, and how long has it been since since it ran correctly. Dave.

Your carb probably needs a rebuild and possibly even a new float. No amount of external adjustments will cure an internal problem.

well i had the carb rebuilt when i overhauled the tractor. so its been like this since then. i'm going to give that a try and take a look at the choke thanks for the help!

i looked at the butterfly valve and it is fine. i"m tempted to get it rebuilt again, but i"d like to know if its for sure the carb. any one have any suggestions?
