I recently rebuilt my Carter UT carb on my super c, It starts and runs but not more than an idle. I didn"t touch the air screw but I did remove the main jet assembly to install a new gasket. Is it the governer or could I have messed up the main jet setting?

How did it run before the rebuild? I'm an expert with Super C carbs if you want them to run with half choke. I can't imagine that it's the govenor. Disconnect it, twist the throttle and see what happends. Most likely its the main jet plugged. Try recleaning it.

It ran well but leaked fuel like a sieve. What sort of adjustment am I looking for on the main jet? It idles up fine if I pull back the gov. linkage on the carb side. I keep messing with it and it seems to be loosening up but now the battery wont turn it over. On the charger, I will reply again once I have power.

It sounds like the original problem was a bad float valve seat. This should have came in you rebuild kit. I don't remember any main jet adjustment on a C Carter carb. Just clean it. Make sure the floats were reinstalled correctly.

It actually has the air screw at the top left of the carb and down at the bottom left it has a T shaped shaft that I guessed would be the main jet adjustment. The inside of that shaft is hollow with small holes around the diameter.

As to the throttle rod binding, I limbered stuff up a bit and it seems to move more freely. Unforunatly I ran out of juice and she's on the charger. Don't need it till saturday to rake so I should be able to figure it out with you guys' help.

Distillate/kerosene Zenith and Carter carbs have a main jet adjustment as described. Gas only carbs have a plug in that opening.

CNKS,
SHould I try a plug or just crank the bugger shut the whole way. It seems that I need to have it about three turns out to run right. Could the govener be set to operate at this current setting?

Don't try a plug because the kero/dist jet is a different size, but it could have been replaced with a gas jet, I do not know. Leave the governor alone, unless you are sure it was acting up before. If you turn the screw in the whole way, there is no fuel and it won't run. I am not sure what you did to the carb, but the procedure is to diassemble the carb, soak in true carb cleaner overnight, blow out with compressed air, put in a new kit and set the float to specs. Adjust the main jet at operating temperature by turning the screw in until engine stumbles, out until smooth. Do the same to the idle jet, you may have to repeat the procedure a couple of times. That is generic, as I don't have info on a distillate carb for a SC.
