350 Utility Indep PTO Slipping

Went out to mow tonight and now the pto is slipping. Doesnt do it all the time. Sometimes it works well. I briefly looked at my I & T manual when I was at the farm and it talks about adjusting the bands. Will this cure the slipping problem? I thought the bands were for keeping the pto stopped. Any ideas?

There are two bands in the Independent PTO unit. One is for stopping the implement and the other is for engaging it. Follow the instruction in the manual and it should correct the problem. It is a fairly easy adjustment. If that doesn't work, replacing the bands is not an option unless you have a lot of money. Case/IH wanted $300+ for each band and several other places wanted in the high $200's each. I got mine relined at a brake shop for about $100 for both. Roger

I adjusted my once and it helped a lot,but it will still slip in real heavy grass or if I get the bushhog in bind.I remember the I&T manual will have you to line up punch dots,in which I could not find at first look.So cleaned off paint and found them. What a pain.So after alineing punch dots it but ipto lever mid point between ingauged and disengauge.Hope this will save you some work.Lester
