Dating Farmall Tractor

I hope I do not insult anyone with my most but I need help dating my Farmall. Here are the numbers I could read:
360553-R3
360486-R5
360733-R1
3508046-R2

These are the only numbers I could find. Any help or feedback is welcomed.

What you have given us are part numbers that don't mean much unless we know the model of tractor.

If you look through the pictures in the "Tractor Photos" to the left of this page there are over 25,000 pictures to match it to. Once you give us the model somebody will be able to tell you where to look for the serial number. Then you can go to the "Serial Numbers" to the left of this page and nail down the year.

Alternatively, post a picture of your tractor and we can usually tell right away what model it is. Even if it has tin or other major parts missing, a lot of people on the board could identify it. Once you know the model number, you can use the parts database on www.caseih.com.

Frank - Look around on your tractor and find the date codes on the larger iron castings: block, head, transmission housing, wheels, axle housings, etc. (You may need to brush off accumulated grease 'n dirt - but the date codes WILL be there!)

Then go to the link below to decipher the code letter representing the year.

In all probability your tractor was assembled within a month or two of when these parts were cast.

Show up on time, conduct yourself like a gentleman, be able to discuss things using terms broader than "Yeah" or "Uh-huh" and call her a day or two after you've gone out. You'll set yourself above the pack.

That looks like a model 300. And it appears the tractor's serial number plate is there, its the silver plate on the clutch housing, about dead center of your picture. The number can be looked up under 'Serial Numbers' to the left here for the exact year. There may also be some letters following the number, which indicates key options the tractor may have.

Thanks for the reply. On that plate I can only read the number 13. It had been painted over and sanded or scratched to a point where I could not read any other number or letters.

Well, that's too bad the ser# is gone, but the 300 was made for three years, 1954-56. One of the other posters here talked about the casting codes, so if you go to the trouble of that research you can narrow the manufacture date to within a couple months. The 300 is in the www.caseih.com parts catalog, so you can look up any part number on the tractor. The follow-on model is the 350, and it is about 95% identical. (main differences are engine and fast hitch updates)

Frank, I thought that my Super A's serial number was worn off too. I could read 5 digits in broad daylight, and mine should've had 6.

It took a dark barn and an LED flashlight to reveal the 6th digit. The right type of light will do wonders.

Look for date codes as BobM suggested. It won't get you the serial number but you'll get a year.

Codes are in the format MM-DD-X, where MM is month, DD is day, and X is a letter code for a year.

Yours will be Z, A, or B. Z is a 1954. A is 1955, and B is 1956.

It's interesting what you can learn from the date codes. Just last week, I noticed that Dad's Super M had one axle housing with a "W" (1951) code from some time in December and one with an "X" (1952) code that is more in line with the rest of the castings on the tractor, April 1952, I think.

To me that indicates that the maybe axle housing was damaged at some point, and was replaced with one off a 1951 M or one off the parts shelf that had been sitting around since 1951.

Frank, if you can get the engine serial # stamped in right side of engine block. Located below head and above breather pipe starting point, I may be able to tell you the month and year tractor was built. Provided engine is the original.

The date codes indicate the tractor was made between December 1956 - January 1957.
12-17-B 12-17-1956 1-14-C 1-4-1957 1-9-C 1-9-1957 The codes are different but are close. Thanks to all for your help. To those who could not resist...Now that I know my Farmall"s age no more dating we plan to marry. Thanks

Okay, 1957 350. I guess the serial number is the only way to tell the exact model.
