Apparent Vacuum lock

I have a 1972 IH 140 that always stalls when it"s hot out. It appears to be a vacuum lock. Does anyone now what I can due to fix this?

Thanks

First, I will say that what appears to be a fuel related issue can actually be an ignition problem. But, if indeed it is a fuel problem, I would first take a good look at how the fuel line from the tank to the carburetor is routed. If the fuel line is not original, or if it has been modified, it may be too close to the engine or manifold. Also, if an inline fuel filter has been installed in the line, get rid of it.

Actual the original fuel line has been replaced with a flexiable line. I will check this evening how close it is to the engine. Why would this cause a vacuum lock? Fuel getting to hot?

If the fuel line is to close to the engine or manifold it can cause the gas to boil in the line which will then cause problems and if things happen just right can even cause you to loose a tractor to a fire

I would definately make sure that it is a vapor lock before digging to deep into it. After it quits try to start it back up, if it will not start check for spark, if no spark then it is likely gas. Also I have heard of people putting wood clothes pins on the gas line to take some of that heat away. Not sure if this works or not but could be worth a try - Good Luck - Matt

if its vapor locking, check your fuel line routing, see if there are any loops or sharp turns. try wrapping the fuel line with reynolds wrap aluminum foil. bunch it up around the fuel line and see if it helps. if it quits vapor locking, replace the line with a metal one.

Went home last night and looked at the fuel line. It was not even a 1/4 inch from the manifold. I moved it a good 4 inches. I will give that a try. Thanks for all the help.
