Im looking at a 300 utility that the power steering dont work.Is it exspensive to repair?etc or should I say does it cost alot to replace the pump,as I thought from reading this site the 300's power steering is a weak point. thank you Dean

If the pump is bad, the rear hitch will not work with a load on it. (assumes a FH system) The PS is difficult to find gears and internal hydraulic parts for. But bushings and other parts can be custom fit. If there is a different PS pump, instead of the Live pump normally used, the non stock pump may be bad.
If the hitch works, and the PS is still not working, the priority valve in the Hydraulic system may be stuck, and not supplying pressure to the PS system. A manual is important for checking the valve. JimN

"Is it expensive to repair?" -- Probably. Most I300U steering parts are discontinued, hard to find, expensive, or all of the above.

"Does it cost a lot to replace the pump?" -- That depends on what you mean by "a lot." Without doing any research, the figure I seem to remember is typically $600 for the pump itself. But considering the capabilities the pump adds to the tractor, I think it's worth it.

If I were considering buying the tractor, I would probably deduct $800 from the price vs. a tractor with fully functional hydraulics. You may get lucky and find out the problem is just a piece of dirt, but you may not.

If the tractor has a non-functioning torque amplifier, and if a torque amplifier is important to you, deduct another $800 or so as a ballpark figure.
