i jus bought a 1466 black stripe at a sale friday i got it home 2 day and it wont go in 1st gear at all and it has a wineing noise in the trans when i move it and when its sitting at idle in neutral with the clutch up if the t/a is on the high side it growls at ya but if i push the clutch down it stops and if i pull it back in low it stops makein the noise and if i drive it in high 2nd t/a in low its perfect no sounds so im kinda stumped lol help me out please!

As for it not wanting to go into 1st take a look at where the shift rod goes into the collar ontop of the top cover of the speed transmission as you may have a half sheared pin then take a look at the linkage at the shifter for any woren or loose linkage. Now as for any whinning from down in the transmission could be a number of things and without being there to hear it were are shooten in the dark.

the roll pin is still in place and the linkage looks fine 2 me it goes in all the gears but low 1 and high 1 and revese 1 it feels like it goes in i also have a 966 so im a lil use 2 the 66 series tractors but ive never had any problems with one before

Well take a real close look as the shifter moves and if no movement then it is either a broken roller down in side or first is out. here again with out being there i am guessen and now i am out of here got 23 acres of hay down and 15 acres of barley to combine today.

It sounds like the nut backed off the speed transmission countershaft. That allows the countershaft to move forward enough that first gear comes off the splines. That can also account for the noise you are hearing.

Yup, it happened to Dad's 1066 years ago. This is not something that can be fixed without tearing the tractor apart, and it's not something you can leave go.

The nut fell off, the countershaft slid out, and it was messy.
