Farmall 350 Diesel value?

Dear Tractor buffs::

I have a neighbor who is not internet savvy who called me over this morning to try to help him put a value on his old tractor. It's a Diesel Farmall 350. He bought it about 30 years ago. It is all original and runs smoothly, but it is burning alot of oil (he said about 1 quart per day.(12 hr day). I think it probably needs new rings. There are quite a few little diesel leaks. I told him to do a ring job, paint it, and keep it as we need more old tractor folks around.

Please someone give me an idea.

Price can vary quite a bit by region, and also depends on presence or absence of other features you didn't mention (power steering, fast hitch, PTO, torque amplifier, wide front), but in general the diesel will be worth more than a gasser with the same options. The Continental diesel engine it has is unique to the 350 series.
 
As Evan pointed out, the engine was a single model (Farmall and International Utility 350) use of that Continental engine. They are economical, but expensive to repair if worn/broken. I would go with a max of 2000 if the tires are good, and 1200 if tires are poor. JimN
 

Agreed. The diesel engine would make it worth MORE if it was in good shape, but if it needs repair, the diesel will make it worth LESS than a normal 350.

I am finishing up rebuilding a Farmall 350 diesel. Someone said the diesel engine is expensive to repair, but all diesel engines are expensive to rebuild. Sleeves, pistons, rings, gasket sets, oil pump rebuild kits, and water pump rebuild kits are available through a company that sells Continental engine parts. The only thing that is hard to come by is if you need valves as no one seems to have them, especially intake valves. Roger
