1944 Farmall H Live Hydraulics

Hi all,
I'm putting a M&W live hydraulic pump on my Dad's 1944 H. It will use the IH Remote valve and the belly pump will be used as a resivior. My question is, I don't know the correct way to hook up all the hoses, I did what Janicholson's diagram said, but the pump was building up lots of pressure in the belly pump and spraying oil out the top of the belly pump cap. How should I hook up the hoses????

Thanks,
Andy.

Andy,

Run a hose from the drain plug on the belly reservoir to the intake on the pump. Run a second hose from the output of the pump to the input on the valve (I think that's the topmost hole). Connect the bottom of the IH valve to the fill port on the reservoir.

Replace the vented cap with a sealed cap or oil will spray out regardless of whether you have it connected properly or not.

Run two hoses from the work ports on the valve to quick connects on the rear of the tractor.

Here is an updated version. A sealed cap will work well if the cylinders used are all 2 way. If at times it is used for single acting, there needs to be venting for reduction in reservoir volume. JimN

Since the IH valve hangs off the fill pipe of the belly pump and drains through that pipe, the T in the bottom of Janicholson's diagram is not necessary. If you were using an aftermarket valve, the T would be the way to plumb it.

The sealed cap was part of the two-way hydraulic kit.

A 1/2" line isn't really big enough to supply the oil for a live hydraulic pump to work properly. The best way to do it would be to drill a hole for a 3/4" suction line...

On my live hydraulic set up I removed the actual pump from the belly, put a plate over it, and added 3/4" suction line and had the hole where the lever went in tapped for 3/4" as well for a return line.

Thanks Steven, I appreciate the help. I've got a M&W pump that we are going to install to use on a JD #8-W Sickle Mower. We got the H running and want to start working with it.
