400 Farmall Diesel

A guy has a 400 Farmall Diesel that is missing the rear axles, wheels, and sheet metal. The engine is complete but exhaust is open and oil fill is open. Wants $500 for the engine and $1500 for the complete carcass.

Is it worth it? The carb and injection pump are still there.

Sounds kinda steep to me. I bought my M for $2000, running and driving with front loader. Granted, the 400 is a more capable tractor, but getting this one back running would take many greenbacks--at least another $1500, depending on parts availability in your area. Still, we're not in this hobby to make money.

Heat, Waaaaayyyy, too much $$$$$$!!On a gas tractor complete, but stuck not running $500 tops!
Being just a engine and drive train assembly this guy is just too out of line, scrap price is $500 to $600 tops!! Tell the guy to just eat it for he is half-again too much

The price is a little steap but a 400 Diesel is a very collectible tractor? If it just missing the rear tires and axles, I would try buying the tractor for around $1,000 and finding some axles and rear casts off of a 400 or M. As more get scrapped, they will get worth more and more. Sad part is people are scrapping out stuck tractors when a little elbow grease and a little money will get it running in tip top shape again.

$500 for the whole thing -- but may still be a little high. Exhaust open -- engine is stuck.
