more power for the model H

I cleaned out the carburetor and got new spark plugs and my H is running smooth and steady but it should have more power. Other than setting the valve clearance, what can I check?
Is it possible to set the timing?

Are you sure it should have more power? Compared to what? H's are only about 24 hp.
Well.... you can start changing sleeves and pistons, put in a 300 or 350 cam, maybe an M&W power govenor would make it feel more responsive??? Is it an "X1" H (serial tag), or a multi-fuel? If it is a multi-fuel, you can change heads to an X-1 head and boost compression, which in turn, will boost power....
Not trying to be a wise-guy, but maybe you really want a Super H or an M? Hope this gives you some helpful ideas. mike

I remember operating this tractor 44 years ago
and its not developing full power
 
Have you done a compression check? Do you have a gas or all fuel engine? The timing can be changed by loosening the dist/mag mounting bolts and rotate the mag/dist to adjust the timing. Good luck.
 
You need an Operator's Manual.

The timing is set by lining up the timing mark on the front pulley and rotating the distributor or magneto to get a spark.

To get more power, you might consider higher compression pistons and head, regrinding the cam to Super H specs, making sure the carb is adjusted correctly, etc.

Depending how weak it is, is the air cleaner, intake manifold, or muffler plugged up ? Are the brakes dragging ?

Will the tractor start off in 5th gear ?
