Cub stops running

Well, I have done all that has been suggested to get my '51 Cub running. I checked gas supply (OK), coil (put in new one), condenser(put in new one). But I still have the problem - she starts instantly, chugs along well for about 20 minutes and then stops. Starts again when cooled down. The coil is quite hot when she stops, so I suspect it is electrical. But it is a brand new 12 volt coil with internal resistor. Where do I look now?
Could it be the wiring? It is old, but looks OK.

Very simple test >

Use a volt meter and check voltage going into coil 12v.

Now check voltage coming out of coil or balaest resister 6 - 8 volts .

Auto coils can be used "but" a external balast resister "must" be used.

The wire that would go from the coil to the dist is the wire you put the balast resister in .

Also check compression when hot and cold to see if there is a bad head gasket etc etc etc ...

Not familiar with tractor.
If it has a mag, have it rebuilt.
Is the whole engine hotter than should be.
Might be intake leak causing heat.
Its obvious something is causing heat.
Is carb set too lean.
No crud in gas tank.
If its electrical, go slow and make sure you have the correct components for your system and that they are wired right.

Pull one of the plug wire's ASAP when the engine quits and check for fire. If that coil is getting hot It may be the problem. Check your charging voltage at the battery to make sure its not over charging. Should be in the 14 to 14.5 volt range with the engine at 1/2 throttle or better. Hal
