diesel problem ????? need HELP

I have an IH 364 that when it sits for about 2 weeks it will not start until i bleed the injection system. I have looked for leaks but found none. Yesterday, i noticed the oil level rose past the FULL mark. I bet the seal is leaking on the front of the injection pump. Is this possible? Also how hard is it to remove / replace etc. I am very good at fixing anything but i never removed the injection pump - yet. Any tips and tricks would be helpful - or any related info would also help - THANK YOU

I consider myself to be a decent mechanic, but I know just enough about injection pumps to know I should leave them to the experts. The most I will do is remove it and take it to a diesel repair shop.

Oh i see and do you have that 65000 dollar test stand to set the pump on to test it to make sure that you did it wright . Even with the years of wrench twisten that i have and the knolage of rebuilding injection pumps with out a test stand i don't even do my owen pumps as a screw up can cost and engine . If you are close to New Castle then get a I T manual and read how to remove the pump from the engine and take it to Harry , the money you spend there is money in the bank.

The place ya want is up off 60 on old 18 i think i can drive there but darn if i can remember the road . The place is called Progressive diesel give Harry Sr. or Jr. a call at 724-658-4690. If ya run into problems i am not that far from ya just across the Ohio Pa. line about 25 mile.

Hi John, yes there is a front drive shaft seal on those injection pumps. See pictures of the DPA
injection pump at this site:http://www.realdiesel.com/dpapump.html

The instructions to remove/re-install this pump were in the archives under B414,434,444 or BD154.
If you do decide to remove it yourself, be sure to put scribe marks on the pump and the mounting plate so you re-install the pump in the exact location you removed it from. Timing is adjusted by rotating the pump in the slotted mounting holes and any slight variation in either direction will mess up the timing. If I recall there is a key or pin that goes into the timing gear but on re-install pump can be 180 degrees out of time if the pump shaft has been rotated, so solution is to remove pump and turn shaft in direction of arrow 1 rev and re-install.

I agree with the Vet for this DPA pump take it to a shop as the front drive hub has to come off to replace the seal. On a Bosch pump the seal can be replaced without disassembling the pump.
