IH 330 not charging

Trying to track down why my 330U isn't charging the battery.

I've learned that it's recommended to polarize the generator if you've disconnected the battery. So I've learned the process of how to do this since I never have done it while getting this machine to run.

I have a voltage regulator with three terminals Bat Gen Field and tried to jump the Bat and Gen terminals as one should and can't get a spark.

I don't find 6V battery voltage at the regulator Bat terminal with my multimeter. I do have a good ground through it's case.

I am assuming I need to see 6V at the regulator Bat terminal?

Your assumption is correct: You should see battery voltage at the regulator BAT terminal at all times. I'd be looking for a break in the wiring between the ammeter and the regulator, or (long shot possibility...) an open-circuited ammeter.

Thanks Bob, my ammeter up in the panel does look pretty nasty.

Can I bypass the ammeter for now just to see if I can make 'er charge again?

Sure! Simply remove the wiring from both ammeter posts, tie all of 'em together and tape the connection. Or jumper the two ammeter posts with a short scrap of wire (use #12 or heavier...)

Keep in mind however without a working ammeter you'll need a voltmeter across the battery posts to tell whether it's charging.

For safety be sure to disconnect the battery while messing with the wiring at the ammeter!

Good deal, I will take it out of the circuit for now and see where I get.

Obviously I want to see how much of the rest of the charging circuit is functional also.
