I bought a NEW 17 GPM hydraulic pump a few weeks ago. Today I was near the CNH dealer and I ordered my gaskets, filters, ect.
My 1st question is: Can I use the stock filters? Somewhere I have read or heard that the stock filters are only good for 14GPM (12 GPM main pump + 4.5 GPM hitch pump = 16.5 GPM total, go figure). I have also heard the 17 GPM pump requires high-flow filters and that modifications are nessecary to upgrade. My total flow should be, 17 GPM + 4.5 GPM = 21.5 GPM. Can the stock 375085R91 filter package handle this flow? All three guys at the CNH sales counter could not answer this one.
My 2nd question is: Why did someone once suggest that I buy a new suction tube? It cost $48.00 + freight. I can understand a new gear ($187.00), but I am going to wait until I see the old one.
My 3rd question is: Has anyone done this conversion (I know several have) and kept the stock filters? Did you get full output or have restrictions and extra heat or excessive back pressure?
I am also going to replace the stock 1650 PSI relief with a 2050 PSI relief to gain loader performance and hopefully I will not break my axle.
Thanks,
Charles
