430 Baler problems

We have a International 430 baler that always misses on the right side. the baler hasent been used in at least 4 years. we had it baling about 3 bales but then it just kept missing after that. we did clean up the notters a bit because the other side never misses. but i was wondering what the best kind of twine to use is? we bought some Jaguar 1300.

howdee.
sounds like the twine discs need to be tightened a bit. they may be worn.
i dont know about a 430 but i ran an oliver 62 for many years with that problem.
also you may have to loosen the bale tension on the side that is breaking.
or the hay is getting fed to much on the side that is breaking.
i always used the 9000' sisel twine in that 62. seemed to work good. better then plastic for that baler.

you should have a manuel for that baler.

balers can be a real headache.

just my 2 cents worth.have fun.

Hi Joe, 430 balers had two different styles of knotters, regular and all twine knotters. The all twine knotters were a great improvement over the regular knotters. If it has all twine knotters it will be indicated on the decals.
The common problem with the regular knotters were they were intolerant of inconsistencies in the twine (did not like thick & thin spots), always required a sharp twine knife and twine hold disk had to be adjusted to thickness of twine by adding or removing shims.

The Operators Manual has a good section on trouble shooting knotter problems. You have to look at the twine that is on the side that didn't tie. Is it long enough to go around the bale? Is it broken or cut from a worn part or nicked part in twine path? Is the bow tied or was it tied and has been pulled loose? Check cut ends of twine, clean cut or ragged with threads hanging out? This is indication of dull twine knife or miss adjusted twine knife. Compare good side vs missing side.

Good luck

Make sure you are greasing ALL of the zerks in that knotter assembly. There are about 20 in there, underneath, behind the billfeet. Get them all.
Use the 9000 sisal from New Holland/IH dealer.
Check the billfoot and disc on that bad side.

I would check out the twine knife first thing. More often than not when the all twine knotter quits tying it is a dull or chipped knife. Be careful messing around with them as they are nothing more than a small razor blade. They are available new from IH dealers.
