Cub clutch bearing?

I hit my ol' cub with a coat of cheap paint, lubed er up and attached the sickle mower, and went to work. Started mowin hay, and everything was hunkey dorey, except, she was pukin about a pint of motor oil an hour. Dang. Got er back in the shop, ordered up a new rear main seal, and started to splitting er. Got the clutch cover plate off and discovered some mischievious looking pieces of brass sitting on the bottom of the clutch housing. So. My quiestion is, what else am I gonna be needing after I get this thing the rest of the way apart? I gots to get back into the haying business!

Thanks a bunch!

Ben

The only thing I can think of that would generate metal chips is if the throw out bearing is bad and the clutch fingers are slipping on it. It depends how much money you want to spend, but I would replace the clutch plate, get a rebuild pressure plate assembly (especially if the fingers have been slipping on the throw out bearing), and replace the throw out bearing. If you wanted to complete the job you could replace the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft. Roger

Hello,
The brass is from the pilot bearing in the flywheel. I can get you you a clutch kit for around $200 but you will have to goto the dealer for the bushing.
Good luck Ed
Wish I could get some hay made been raining for 2 weeks

Thanks for the advice. The throw out bearing looks a bit worn, but ok. The bits of brass I found appear to be off the end of the pilot bushing. Gonna see if I can track one down at one of the local supply houses before I call the dealer. Clutch and flywheel look just fine. The rear main didn't seem to be in too bad a shape. Suuuuure hoping it wasn't just loose pan bolts that got me goin on this little adventure....

make sure you look at the oil pump. what ever is leaking will be washed clean running down. i would spend some time looking before you clean anything.
