O.T. strawberries, Farmall H, cardinal ...

Some ramblings for a mid-Sunday afternoon. I had been on the front stoop cleaning strawberries...took a phone call and wondered what that sound was, headed back out to see a Farmall H pulling an older five or six foot New Holland haybine past the house. Operator was traveling along in, a guess here, second gear and muffler flapper was tapping out a missing sound. Was a good little downpour and maybe the wires got wet??? A nice sound/sight for me anyway. And another red thing - not sighted today, but a beautiful cardinal is happily singing in the sixty or so foot tall silver maples across the road and then from the brush line. Time to nuke the last cup of coffee and clean the last quart of Amish berries - $2.00/quart; 71 degrees. Hope you folks are enjoying your day.

AL: Thanks for "painting" such a beautiful picture. Wish I was there to enjoy it with you.
On the otherhand, it ain't so bad here, either. Finally got a rain about an hour ago (3 pm Central), which probably saved my Dove patch (corn and sunflowers) - not to mention (my friend) Bubba Hugh's corn field across the county road. It is now a quiet, nice, cooler evening in my little cove amongst the lower Applachian mountains here in N. Alabama. Makes a man think about his Creator; that's how nice it is here....

Al: I'm afraid those strawberries will get in your stomach. Which reminds me, I was supposed to pick up strawberries on my way home yesterday. Rater interesting, no one mentioned my forgetfulness.

Our cardinals seem to have left us, stayed around here all winter. We've got a flock of robbins, seem to have taken over our yard and drove out all else. We had an eastern screach owl with 4 young, and the robbins gave her hard enough time she moved on.

Some creature was chewing on my buckwheat last night. I suspect white tailed deer. I catch up with the guy that hunts around here, have to tell him his livestock are out of control.

Don't eat too many strawberries.

Mike,Each time I drive down through Southern WV and look at the scenery I think about the one who created it all,and some still believe in evolution

That's good price on strawberries we had to pay $3.00 a quart pick your own or $ 4.00 already picked. Sure were nice berries. I ate about as many as I picked. Had them on raised beds and were weed free. We've been freezing and canning sour cherries. Our tree is loaded. We've did 28 pints. My wife made Mount Vernon dessert with some of them too. Hal

I remember picking strawberries when I was a kid and selling them along side the road 3 quarts for $1.00. Baskets were piled high too, not level full. Ah, the good ol' days. rw

I used to tell my late girlfriend, as we would "sit out on the west lawn" and enjoy a sunset, "you can't buy a better show than this!". I looked up as I was driving through the county fairgrounds heading for the house and saw a double rainbow-double promise-as another light rain was falling over the area. Such a beautiful and colorful sunset I had to go for another walk west when I got back and didn't get car spray/splashed at all and another cardinal singing. Take care.

My dad and i used to sell our berries road side when i was 5 or 6 yrs old (1970s). Fast forward to 1999 or 2000, i forget exactly, but we had a few too many for our own use so we decided to sell them in the same spot we used to. Cop came by, asked if we had permit, threatened to ticket us then told us to go home. He wouldnt even buy a box. Things sure have changed.
