after starting my 806D, it will run for about 30sec. then it will start to sputter until it finally dies. leave it set for a few minutes and it will do the same thing again. this just started happening since replacing fuel and air filters. it has the roosamasterpump.

The flex ring in your govenor of the roosa master pump is failing, and needs to be replaced.
It"s plugging up the return fitting in the top of the pump. If you take this fitting out and knock out the glass check ball, it will run okay. However, do not run it this way for very long as it can seize up the pump. The pump needs to be overhauled asap.

what exactly is the flex ring and can it be replaced without tearing the whole pump apart? I think it must be something in the fuel delivery to the injection pump itself because there is plenty of fuel to the fitting at the pump. I dont think it is sucking air because it starts right up and is smooth with no miss and there is excellent throttle response. it is just after 30 secs. it starts to die out and quit. If it was the injection pump I wouldnt thick it run as good as it does when it does run.

The flex ring holds the gov. wt. retainer together. The whole pump has to come apart to replace the flex ring. If you knock out the glass ball in the return fitting, the pump will run fine for a couple weeks if needed. But needs to be overhauled asap. I run a fuel injection shop in CA for 35 yrs, and see this everyday.

I removed the return fitting, there was no check ball in it but there is a wire shaped like a hook in the center of the hole. I then started the engine with the fitting removed and it ran fine. I put my finger over the hole where the fitting goes and it started to stall. Then while it was running I screwed the fitting with the wire back in to the top of the governor, the motor started to sputter. I removed the wire and reinstalled the fitting and hooked the return line back up and it runs perfect. But when reading the service manual it states that the wire needs to be there. now what?????

You can use it like that for awhile, until you are able to have it overhauled. When they overhaul it, they will put the right fitting in it. That wire served the same purpose as a check ball, which came out later after the wire. Any other question, just email me.
