I shorted the two large terminals on the solenoid & the starter worked. If I read your previous post correctly, you say my solenoid is bad???? correct? This would line up w/ my starter wanting to run/spin continously prior to just nothing working at all.

Can I use a 6v solenoid for my starting purposes?

Thanks for the help -

If you have a 12V conversion, you need a 12V solenoid. You might use a test light to insure you have 12V on the small terminal when you turn the switch.

Solenoids do stick--both engaging & letting go after the engine fires. Try shorting the small [switch] terminal to the large terminal on the solenoid which is fed from the battery hot post. If the starter turns, there is a problem in either the start switch or the wiring to the solenoid from the switch.

You need to check for voltage on the small terminal when your key is twisted to start or you push a starter button. You may not have voltage at the key or none at the starter button. You may need to trace the feed wire to see if its broken or not making good contact. If your solenoid has 2 small terminals one may be the feed terminal to your switch. The terminal that cranks the engine usually has an S and is only hot ( has voltage) when cranking the engine. Hal
PS: I had to replace the solenoid on my tractor it just kept cranking. Cost about $5.00.
