Farmall B wide front???

From my knowledge, a farmall B was never made with a wide front end. I found one that was a government issue (forest service) that has a wide front. The guy I am in contact swears that it came like that. Does anybody have any input on this matter?

From what I understand the B only came with the trike front end, but being a gov. order it could have been put on because the gov. can get any thing they want. Probably a front end for an A

It ain't easy to do, but Uncle Sam might have paid to have it done, whether directly through IH or with parts from an outside supplier (not like IH didn't use those, if you think of all the shop mules and other variations on the A)

If I were a fella wantin' to go at such a conversion on my own own, I'd see two routes.

1) I could start with an A and get the longer diff shaft and housing from a BN and bolt onto the left side of an A (or, less likely, two shafts and housings, one for each side, and the different seat platform and mounts if I was using goods from a B), and see if I could extend the left and pull in the right sides of the front end on the A to even up the tread and make it track right, with the factory setup being shorter on the left.

2) Start with a B or BN, and replace the whole front casting and front end with that from an A to get the steering arm to run to the tie rods, but still face the same issue of how much adjustment I had for width on the front.

I saw a B with a wide front and hydraulics once. It was for sale near me a few years back. It was advertised as a B with wide front. I think it actually was a Super A from the clutch housing forward, that being bolted to a B rear end and final drives. The front axle was modified on the left hand side so that it matched the wide tread of the B on the rear.

I saw the same government surplus photos. Definitely a new one for me. Probably just an A with the left side axle housing from a B.

I am having trouble loading the pic, but if someone wants to email me I will send them a pic of a B with a wide front end on it to post. It is a Gensing conversion. Quite a few have had wide front added over the years.

Dealers would put wide front assys from the A for hi-way mowing. I had one from COLO that had lots of yellow paint on it. Sold wide front and put narrow front back on added exhaust lift and cult tractor now resides in TEXAS. So tractor was bought in COLO moved to IA then to TEXAS sure got around in its day. Just redone a cult for a B with A wide front used for cultivating ruhbarb. Owner set out 1000 plants makes lots of fine wine. Planted on a 56in grid so he can cross to keep weed free. Used the rear shovels and the one lever lifting everything.

Must be an A wide front...or an A wide front with a C axle. The steering is on the wrong side for a C.
Almost bet it has an A box and C axle.

Intresting to say the least.

A number of B and BN tractors have been converted to wide front to work over beds in Ginseng gardens in Wisconsin and Ontario. A C or Super C wide axle is mounted backwards to allow for the steering shaft.

I saw an old IH photo of one of their equipment shows, from 1940 I think, and it had a B with wide front end. The caption called attention to it because it was factory, but not an option. I can not find the photo, but I think it is on the WHS photo site.
