I apologize to all you folks for asking what must seem like a dumb question but do you know whether my 1955 Farmall 300 with torque amplifier takes 6 or 15 gallons of 80W-90 in the transmission? The operators manual seems to endorse both when it says "keep the lubricant up to the level of the plug" (about the 6 gallon point when refilling) and "The capacity is approximately 15 U.S. gallons when the tractor is standing level." So which is it, the level of the plug or 15 gallons?

The manual says to use 80W gear oil but that was later revised when IH realized the thicker oil was hard on the TA - especially in cold weather.

That being said I would use an Hytran equivelant from TSC (about half the price) in a 300 instead of shelling out the big bucks for Hytran.
