Changing Starter on OS-4 -- That was fun!

Now that is an engineering marvel where you have to remove the belt pulley drive box to change the starter. Bolts holding the torque housing just stick out towards the starter enough to prevent it from releasing it from the insert hole. I'll venture to say that the guy who thought that one up never changed many out in the field! After changing the fanbelt on the 38 F-14, pulling and cleaning the carb on the 39 H, replacing the gas starter tank on the 650 Diesel, and getting 3 other tractors running that have not been started this year, I was plum pooped out. But this old Farmall and McCormicks sickness has quick recovery time. Migraine

Sounds like you had a fun day. My brother always complains about the "college educated engineers" that design so of this stuff.

Haha, yeah, I had the same experience with my W4 RIGHT after I painted it. However, if the repair lasts another 50 years like the original equipment did, I won't mind :)
