I started having a prob w/ the starter continuing to run after the engine was started. Went out to try it again today, & now it does nothing. I cannot even get the lights to come on?

Its a 12v conversion from the PO. It has one wire from the alternator. It has a three position keyed switch goint to an ammeter and a push button start along with a solenoid (relay).

Where do I start... Is the keyed swith the most likey problem? I have already tried another push button I had laying around...still no lights or an attempt to start. The battery is pretty new & it measures out good as well.

Looking for some help... the grass is gettin' tall!

Something somewhere is not making a connection. That's the best anyone can do because there's no way to know how your tractor is wired, since it is definitely not stock.

Your problem with the starter before was probably because the solenoid was sticking.

Start taking connections apart, one by one, and clean them up until they're shiny and copper-colored.

Using a pump pliers--jumper cable--or other suitable tool, short the 2 heavy terminals on the solenoid. If the starter turns, the solenoid is at fault. If no action there, look for terminal/connection problems.
Worst problem is a faulty starter.

You need to use a volt meter & check for battery voltage at your switch. It may be fed battery voltage from the solenoid. I had to replace the solenoid on my tractor. There should be battery voltage on the battery cable that's connected to your solenoid. You need to trace the wire on your key switch that's feeding battery voltage to it. You're not getting voltage to your starter button either. Hal

Finally got back to some checking. I shorted to two large post on the solenoid and the starter worked!

If I am reading your post correctly... I have a faulty solenoid...correct?

Can I use a 6v solenoid for my starting needs?
