Alright guys, out of respect for my palative care father with bone cancer with FIVE W tractors ( two SWD6, Sw6, W6 and W4) I read all the time how W stands for Wheatland. What does the M stand for?? Ounce in a while I see how somebody calls their W a Farmall and it gets a response of how offending that is to Farmall owners. Guess what ,it works both ways , we just don't point it out to you.Anyone got the answer or is Wheatland what was just thought and is carried away by so many experts.
Please, lets have some thoughts?

The "W" actually stands for "wheel tractor" in IHC terms of the times. In various parts of the country they are called; "standard", "wheatland", or "wheel" and probably some other local names.

The M is just a model designation for that size Farmall such as A. B, C, H, and M.

M Lake: So what is your problem W is a series of tractors, while M is a model designation of a tractor in the Farmall series.

I think he's looking for clever things that the letters in the letter series could stand for...

They hadn't invented humor yet in the 1930's, so unfortunately the letters don't really stand for anything. The letters simply "sounded powerful," I'm sure.

My personal theory is that the M was originally going to be called a "K," based on the FBK designation on the serial number tags of Ms, FBH on H tags, FAA on A tags, and FAB on B tags. Why would three of the four models have matching tags? Because someone in marketing decided that K didn't sound right.

M=Moron Proof
Even a Moron can not ruin it, LOL.
We had several try to ruin our M and Super M, but they all failed, tractors are still running and working long after they were gone.
