Elderly Etc Continued

Hi.Today I pulled the head off the junk H that I displayed recently. I had to burn off the external head nuts cos all the corners were rusted off. The nuts underneath the rocker cover were ok and shifted quite easily. I had to burn off the manbifold nuts but one still sheared off. The manifold is good except the top half that I had to weld back together. (I gas welded it and used old piston rings as filler rods. Good weld but hell to grind off) As you can see despite at least 20 years under a tree with no spark plugs in it, it doesn't look too bad. As far as I can tell only one valve is stuck. I have decided to do the major surgery required and get this old girl running again. So from here on out I'm collecting H parts. Thanks for looking MTF

Just a different angle. The pic should have been included on the last post. Totally amazing that head gasket looks almost new.You can see where I had to burn off the nuts. I particularly like the spiders web in the No 2 cylinder. I'll let you all know how it progresses. Yep I know just plain boring! MTF

This is a joke, right?

If for real, you're my new hero.

If for real, please keep us posted. Surely I think you might win some kind of prize if you pull this off.

Good Luck!!

hey mike farmers thats worse than my h but keep plugging away at, it it would make quite the basketcase conversation piece when restored!

Are we to infer that this engine is not frozen up??? It sure looks like the best candidate for it that I have seen. Keep us posted--braveheart! :)

This engine is frozen up solid as a rock. After reading about the amount of IH parts being just melted down What else could a fellow do? And its only a lost cause when I admit it. Of course it could end up that way. MTF

Mike,

You are in England, right ? Don't you all have machine tools like we have woodowrking equipment ?

What is the problem with the pistons siezed in the bores ? Won't you be replacing the pistons and sleeves anyway ?

I am confident that you will get this tractor running again because you English are crazy. Crazy. And talented engineers. Whitness my '70 Commando. Both a piece of junk and a brilliant bike.

Good luck, and with the pound kicking the stuffing out of the dollar, you should be able to find all the parts you need at a reasonable price.
