My question is on the new rod bolts from IH for a C291 engine - what is the torque spec? They appear to be standard looking bolts with a standard bolt head. The shank and threads are almost the same diameter. The old bolts that were in the engine have a thicker head and are longer.

Thank you very much!

And why are you replacing the rod bolts , they are not the new junk bolts that the new engines are put together with . There are two style bolts used in I H engines one is called a place bolt and the other is called the patch bolt .The bolts you have are the place bolts and get torqued to 50 ft. lbs. the other ones get torqued to 45 ft. lb.

I agree with the tractor vet, but the new bolts should be the same length. I didn't think there was a difference in length between place bolts and pitch bolts.
Good luck Ed
