Farmall M cylinder diameter

I have a 1952 Farmall M. I am ready to order rebuild kit. From the information that I have the original piston diameter was 3-7/8. If this is true, is this size available today?
The tractor motor has had work done it previous to me. It currently has 4.00 dia. (domed head ) pistons.
I would prefer to replace with original specs. if possible.

I don't know much about this but why would you want to de-tune the engine with smaller pistons and get less horsepower ? ...Randy

Yes 3 7/8" are still available from many places including right here at YT. I'd stick with the 4" though unless your just not ever going to want max power. The bigger size is made by making the sleeve wall thinner, outside diameter is the same. Either way go with the domed pistons as it would increase fuel efficiency with the higher compression. Save every drop of gas these days!

Thanks for the quick response.
I am not concerned with horsepower as much as I am with returning tractor to original.
The tractor will never be used for anything but show as long as I live.

Almost all these old tractors were up sized when they were overhauled. They were "working" and a little extra hp was cheaper than a new tractor. Unless you know the history of your M i'd guess that it might have been overhauled "at least" twice.

I think you are right about the number of times engine was over hauled.(min. 2x) The crank connecting rod was .040 under. I had to buy different crank. New crank machined to .010 under.
Thanks for the reply
