F-20 Head question

I have a question about my 1938 F-20. It has two bolts holes on the front end of the head. Is there something that needs to be there? I can see the valve lifters through the holes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are those holes in to protruding castings??? Late models with the v-belt had the fan braket bolted there. Are the holes on the side ahead of number one plug? If so, that is where the oil guage bracket went for a regular.
Late replacement heads have all of this so that they would fit all the tractors with or without production changes. The latest head would fit from the regular to the end of production f-20.

I'd say if you can see clear through to the valve lifters(likely you mean pushrods since the actual lifters are down inside the block), that if you don't have anything that mounts there on your tractor, then you'll need to put short bolts in the holes to seal them up. Probably wouldn't hurt to dab a little permatex or thread sealer on the bolts for good measure.

The Regular and maybe some early F-20s had an oil guage mounted there. Just put some short bolts with lock washers to keet the dirt out of the engine. Also makes a good place to mount a generator/alternator.
