Tachometer IH 240

I finally decided to do something about my broken tach. I know the cable is shot but I think the unit might be bad too. It is at the shop now. In case the man can't fix it, will a tach for a 300 or 350 work OK? I know the ground speeds might be off some and a diesel tach turns the other direction. Any thing else?

This is for Dave-On a 240U, how to check current gas gauge or
find a replacement?

Don, I have no idea. I changed my 240 U to 12V and could not get the gauge to work. BTW it didn't work before. I tried a 12-6V electronic voltage regulator to one side of the gauge and even swapping the leads didn't work. I think the sender in the tank may be bad!!! David....
