If I get this right and I hope that I do this should show a couple pics of a Farmall H. Found it under some trees and paid scrap value for it. Water pump still turns, the manifold is good and I'm in the process of removing the head. The engine is stuck and I assume that its the pistons????

I think you are using the "Classic" forum, vice the "Modern" forum. "Modern" is much easier to post pictures in.

And this H looks like a goner. :?

I have to confess I haven't got a clue what I'm using::prayers mostly. Its not actually a goner YET. I shall get the engine running and suprisingly the gear lever still moves and feels relatively slick(did they ever I ask?) MTF And thanks!

I don't like to discourage anyone fixing up a tractor, but in order to do it you need somewheres to start. The very fact that this has been sitting long enough for the weather to eat the valve cover and most of the tinwork off it suggests that the engine is likely no good.

You might be wise to find yourself a better one-if thats possible where you live.Judging by the liscence plate on the vehicle behind the tractor,it isn't North America.

This tractor is scrap.

hope i don't bust your bubble.... but that should be a DONOR tractor. H's are plentiful, and to put that one back in shape would cost you WAY more than buying a good running one w/ good paint andtires...just my 2 cents.

START WITH THE VICE GRIPS plyers FIRST IF YOU CAN GET THEM WORKING MAYBE START WITH WIRE BRUSH, HAVE A good day.

Hi Gentlemen of the Red. I don't intend trying to renovate this old lady. The licence plate is England its a Land Rover Discovery. It is definitely an H because the engine No is still legible. Hal its not my Vista its me, I'm the bad workman and the tools are not too blame. As with many other things I'm a computor dinosaur. In answer to being able to obtain another H for far less than the cost of repair I do already have one plus a couple of M's and a 'pretty little Super C. Anyway thanks for your comments. I let you know what the inside of the engine is like evetually MTF

Right click those pics and left click "Properties"
and see what's required when posting 2 or more pics. Hal
PS: I still have a pic of your Ford.

Mike, give it a go. If you get it running, it would be some story. We have been working over, on and off, this river bank titan. (mostly off) The transmission is actually pretty good yet inside, and parts aren't hard to find for these. Most all of what we have done so far is locating parts. If nothing else, we are going to end up with a complete conversation piece for very little money. We already have found many parts cheap from all kinds of sources. A farmer friend 3 miles from us had a water tank in his barn for it.

Hi Hal, thats really nice to know you still have that pic. Do you also still have the 'before' pic of an M that I think I sent at the same time? I try your left and right clicking and see what comes out regards Mike

Good luck restoring your H. It may take a while to get it running, but those H's are easy to work on. I like the wide front end, my Dad's 1944 H has that kind of front end too. My Dad bought the 1944 H off Tractor House and it was not run in 10 years, but I kept working on it and it is running again, but it does need a good carburetor. Good luck with your H and be sure to post here with your progress!

Andy.

If you pull the head and pan off that, send us pictures of it,pull the center main bearing and show us that too.It would be interesting to see just how bad it is.

Mike I thought the M I brought out of the pasture was in bad shape. Compared to this one I got a deal. Hope you more knowledgeable at mechanicing, welding and soldering than me. This group has been a great help for me, even though you don't see my name appear here often. I usually read everyone's problems each day and most every day I have a similiar problem. I hopefully will have mine completed sometime this fall. Sure have enjoyed doing it.

Harley

Wow, that machine is pretty far gone. I don't think that would be a reasonable canidate for restoration. I put over 4K in one a whole lot better than that, and that was 15 years ago.

Mike, I have seen much better condition H's in the salvage yard after they have been striped of parts. However, I recently restored a Farmall Cub that looked good on the outside, but when I was all done, I had certainly replaced a lot of parts including transmission case/axle housing, the whole wide front, hood and gas tank, and many other major parts. Good luck. Roger

Well done Mike at least it has a serial number plate. In November 2009 we are featuring IH tractors at the Newark Tractor Show so i will be watching your progress, have fun. MJ

I think you are pulling all of our legs. This tractor is long gone, no hope! You can buy a H with good tires, good paint, and running with no smoke for $1500.00. Give us a break.

Hi gents.Well at first I did NOT intend to try to renovate this machine. Then I thought 'what if it was the last H in the whole world? Then I would have to do the job or you all would never forgive me. So I just might give it a go. No I wasn't trying to pull any legs. MJ I shall be at Newark but this one wont. I may bring up an M or something maybe a Wallis if its finished. Luck to all and enjoy. MTF
