Ok I have a super h that I'm trying to change to 12 volt. I have still the 6 volt generator a 12 volt + or - ground regulator a 12 volt coil and a 12 volt battery. Now when I turn the key on the amp meter goes to the + side before I start it. After I start the tractor when it idles it is on the + side but when I rev the motor up the amp meter goes to the - side. Do I have to hook the battery up with pos ground or does it matter and why does the amp meter show backwards reading Thanks Kevin

Since you have reversed the battery ground, you need to swap any and all wires connected to the ammeter posts from one post to the other. Assuming it read correctly BEFORE the ground changeover, it will read correctly AFTER the ground coversion, once the wires are swapped between the ammeter posts.

Kidd, If I understand your post, youre still using the 6 volt genny correct?? I have used 6 volt gennys to charge at 12 volts simply by using a 12 volt Voltge Regulator and she worked NOTE Im NOT saying thats engineering correct or charged at any super high rate, ONLY that it worked although you could overheat the gennys field windings.

Next, you should have POLARIZED the Genny before you started the tractor if you changed battery polarity cuz you could damage the Voltage Regulator.

You need to decide what Polarity youre going to use,,,,,,,,,,,POLARIZE the genny (before starting),,,,,,,If you stay at the original polarity the ammeter should register correct buttttttttttt if you have switched polarity then you gotta swap ammeter leads as Bob suggested so it wont read bass ackwards.

If its a coil ignition the coil needs reversed if you change polarity. If at Pos ground the coils lil - gets ignition switch fed voltage while its other lil + wires to distributor but reverse that if at Neg ground.
