460 hydraulic pump question

ok, i think my hrdraulic pump shot craps today. moving some dirt with the front loader. would dig in and the lift moved slower and slower after a couple of loads. then it would srop about 6-8 inches then pick up.

then it would do the same and my stearing was harder and it started to whine. checked the fluid and has plenty from the check valve.

sooooooo i assume its the hydraulic pump? how hard is it to change? (i know, i still have not bought my i.t. man)

thanks for all the help!!!

Its a real easy job to get the pump out and put another back in. On the left side of the tractor theres a large flat plate with about 8 5/16 bolts in it, remove the plate and the pump slides out. there is a site that will show you all you need to know, its called old oaks farmalls, google it, the guys been through all of it.
If you need a good pump let me know,I've got one that I pulled from my 460ud, but it turned out that was'nt the problem. The old pump that I took out would supply plenty of pressure to run a loader. My problem, still unresolved, turns out to be in the valves and I still haven't taken them out to work on them

Like Tom mentioned the pump is mounted on a rentangular plate that is on the lower left side of the torque tube. You will have to disconnect the supply hose that goes between the pump and the valve assembly. Than once the plate is off the pump is mounted to the plate by three or four bolts.

thanks, does it sound like the pump? i just had the lift cylinders rebuilt and this is the first time i really worked it hard.

i did up down thing a bunch of times to get all the air out. so i dont think its air in the cylinders.

i am going to take it apart and change the filter and check things like that before i try to replace the pump.

thanks again

If chanding the filter and what not doesnt make a difference it most likely sounds like th pump is the problem, or a blocked or clogged line between it and the valves, or in the valves themsevleves. Could also be worn o-rings on the pump or supply tube. The other thing that happens is the constant running shaft drving the pump will wear, or strip out, but than the hydraulics usually go out all together. Let us know how it goes for ya.

My 460 hydraulics went out. Do you still have the hydraulic pump for sale? I would be interested in purchasing it from you. Thanks - Rex Herron
