A friend of mine has a 1939 h in realy nice original condition.needs paint but thats about it.family owned since new.Wants to know what its worth. Can anybody tell me roughly

Alot depends on region where being sold. And also for a '39, it would depend on if it's an early one. I would guess somewhere in the $2000 range, depending on actual condition.

You need to say where it is located. Prices vary according to how many are around. Roughly, here in CT, getting a decent complete H for $1,200 is considered a good deal. There a lot of other variables that go into pricing a tractor. How are the tires? Have you done a compression test? You may want to look in the 'Articles' section (link in left-hand column) - there are a couple articles on buying your first tractor that will cover other aspects you may want to examine in coming up with a price. Also, the economy is reportedly driving down prices . . .

Just to add to the other guys....
Make sure that it has all the special 39 features such as the seat and the top cover with the notch in it.

Location is big, but tires, how well it runs, what parts its got on it, or if it has been "farmerized" in any way. Familly history wont play a factor in how much it is worth to the buyer, only to the seller, I like to know the family history but I won't pay more for it.

Tractor is in mass and has not been hacked anywhere.there is one problem, the pto pops out from running a brush hog on it which damaged the shaft where it couples inside the housing. The tires are good, sheetmetal is perfect.I will check it out again for options
