removing radiator

By the way thanks to all who have helped me get the steering column off of the 44" H last week. The nut on the end was rather difficult, but after purchasing a 3/4 inch socket set I won. Now, I want to remove the radiator and find it relatively difficult to get to the mounting hardware underneath. Anyone got any insight into tricks on how to get to the two mounting bolts?

I just did it slowly. If I had a racheting combo wrench, that would have made life easier, but I don't.

They are difficult to get at. A flex hex socket can be a blessing. The main thing is getting them off W/O twisting things off. Heat, penetrating oil, more heat. They are far harder to fix when twisted off than if taken off. JimN

IMHO, taking those bolts off the bottom of the radiator to remove it is probably the most difficult job that you will do while restoring your H. There is no easy way. As others have said, be sure to get the cotter pins out. Use lots of penetrating oil. Careful with the heat, the top of the bolt is threaded into plates that are soldered to the bottom radiator tank. Too much heat & they will become "unsoldered" (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Don't tweak on them too hard. I went to put mine back on after I got done and it poured out the two studs. They are not a very good design for ease of removal. My tips are penetrating oil (kroil works best i have found, WD-40 sucks as a penetrant)and those funky tools that you get as gifts that bob vila advertizes, the ones that you never use, came in handy on mine. I avoided heat because visibility up there is poor and i didn't want to damage threads or ruin any solder joint. Persistance is the key.
