I have a 53 H that ran good for a couple years. It died and would not start till I replaced the condencer. Now it will start but acts like it runs out of gas in 3-5 min. I am not sure which screws do what on the carb. thanks for any help

Could be fuel; could be loss of ignition. When it dies, check to see if you have spark at the plug wires-to-spark plug. If so, it could be the coil. I'm not telling you what do do, but I am suggesting you by an Operator's Manual for your tractor. It will explain the various carb settings and how to get them within an acceptable range. The manual is also full of other valuable maintenance information you will need. You can buy one right here on this forum. Look to the top left of the forum page under "Marketplace". Good luck. mike

I had an H did the same thing. It was junk in the gas tank.

Drain fuel
Clean sediment bowl and gas tank
Install screen in top of sediment bowl.

Thanks for quick responses. I will try both. If I do the screen I will not need to seal the inside of fuel tank.

The bottom screw is where to enrich the fuel mixture for power. You probably have fuel blockage somewhere. Pull the gas line at the carb. and see if there's a full flow of gas. Catch the gas in a clean container. If the flow is good pull that tube fitting and check that screen that's been suggested. If it is clean you probably need to clean the carburetor thoroughly.

The coil can cause the engine to quit that's been suggested, but you need to check for fire to the plugs asap before the coil cools. Hal

If it proves to be rust, I"ve had good luck with a 2" round magnet - steel cover with an eye bolt through the center. I waved that all around my tank and picked up a bunch of rust. I left it in the tank by the outlet port that feeds the sediment bowl. Every once in a while I fish the magnet out by hooking the eye bolt with a bent piece of baling wire, clean it off and put it back by the outlet. I"ve never had any problems since I started that practice.
