Stuck Float ?

I went to start my M yesterday and as soon as I opened the gas valve gasoline started poring out the bottom of the Carb. Once I started the engine it ran fine with no more gas pouring out. I always stop my tractors by closing the gas valve and letting them empty the carb.

Is this a case of the float sticking ? Does this mean the carb should be rebuilt or will it likely just stop sticking without intervention? The tractor sits a lot more than it runs.
Thanks

Generally if the float sticks the tractor doesn't run right either. You might try turning the fuel on again to see if it has "un stuck" otherwise you can take out the 4 cap screws that hold the bowl on and check out the float and needle and seat.

Everyone has their own ideas about how to best maintain a tractor carb. In my experience - for whatever little that is worth - carbs are much more likely to pour gas if you shut them off and run them dry, than if you just shut them off and leave gas in the bowl of the carb. I always shut the gas off when I am done with my tractor, but I do not run them dry. The few times I have run them dry, invariably, they pour gas when I open the valve.
So.... no, in my opinion, you do not need to rebuild your carb; just don't run it dry. Others will tell you their favorite remedy and I respect what they have learned. I am just telling you what works for me and what I have learned from my own experience with my own tractors. mike

I'm with Red Mist, I don't think your carb needs rebuilt especially if its working fine now. I have found if you run the carb dry and then the tractor sits for a length of time, more times than not the needle will stick for whatever reason. I just shut the gas off each time, but don't run the carb dry. Just my 2 cents.
