Magneto firing on F14

quick question about timing my magneto. should it impulse straight up on TDC?

Doug,I have a F14 that didnt want to start by hand cranking,Come to find out my mag was snapping to late.I installed a starter on it to help start it,while I had the flywheel off I wirebrushed it and found the proper mark,When I brought the mark in the center of the sight hole the piston was TDC but the crank throw was past straight up and just starting to pull the piston back down.This would keep the motor from kicking back,I adjusted the mag where it snaped when the mark was in the center of the hole.The tractor starts good
