47 M VALVLE TRAIN?

I TOOK OFF VALVE COVER AND FOUND EXHAUST VALVE
ON #1 CYL. HAD POPPED ITS KEEPER OFF.
SO I AM GOING TO FIX THIS BUT IT SEEMS THAT
AFTER LOKING AT THEM ALL SOME OF THE SPRING TOPS
ARE ALMOST IF NOT RIGHT AGAINST THE ROCKER
ASSEMBLY. THIS DOESNT SEEM RIGHT. CAN I SHIM THE
ROCKER ASSEMBLY UP FOR MORE CLEARANCE.
HAS ANY ONE HAD THIS PROBLEM OR DID
SOMEONE DO A HACK JOB ON THIS HEAD AT SOME TIME.
ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

The tips of the valves stick out at least an eight of an inch above the keepers. If they are shorter, they are butchered, or worn.
If the rocker tips look patterned, and worn, I suspect wear. There is no shimming that would do the trick. Replacing the valves, and possibly the rockers will be needed. JimN
