I bought what appears to be a '47 H Farmall, Serial #FBH258979X1. It has disc brakes - 3 bolt covers. Are these Lambert brakes or IH options? It appears to have original paint, one layer, no flaking. However, it has the McCormick decal and not McCormick Deering. Could it have come from the factory with these brakes? It also has mag. ignition. Seems to start good. Can this be converted to 12 volt? Sorry for the long post. I can try to upload photos. Thanks. DTK

The McCormick decals are correct. Yes, it can be converted to 12 volts, I've done it several times. Bob M has the wiring diagrams you will need. I've seen those brake covers before, I'm not sure if IH offered disc brakes as a option for the 47 H or not, but I know there were a few other companies that made them for the H.

I had a 41H with mag.
It turned over so slow but always started but then I started having trouble starting and considered 12v. But then I had the mag rebuilt and no matter how slow it turned it always started. ALWAYS!
And when I say turned over slow I mean like it sounded like the battery was dead and I swear it wasnt going to make it another turn. But then on the next try Bang! she started.
Point being that these tractors with mags are meant to turn slow so you dont disengage the impulse couplers. If you have a hot mag it doesnt matter how slow it turns over.
My point of view.

The disc brakes on that are Lambert disc brakes.I've seen both H's and M's equipped with them, and I believe my parts books show these brakes in detail. They are a different style brake than those offered by IH on the Super series.

Yep, I think "McCormick-Deering" decals are right for '47 models....our '48 W-6 was a "McCormick-Deering" not a "McCormick".
