Speedy-sleeve for a Cub

I want to put speedy-sleeve on the rear axles on my Cub. Do I have to mesure it before ordering or is there a number or a size that I could order before dissasemble?

Why?

A speedi-sleeve fills in a worn spot on a shaft. You need to know how much the shaft is worn before you get the sleeve. If you get one too thick or too thin, it won't work.

Just what makes you think that you need a speedy sleeve on the axle as it sounds like an unlikely place for a sleeve. The sleeves do come in differen sizes.

If there is a wear groove on the axle,or shaft, try putting the new seal fractionally in or out when installing it so that it rides on a new place on the shaft.

If, you are talking about the rear axle with the flange for the wheel, the speedi-sleeve number is 99212. When I bought them they were $37.00 each at NAPA, but it beats a pool of oil until the axle. Be sure to use some gasket sealer on the axle before you drive them on. I made a tool out of PVC pipe to put them on. You can find them on NAPA on-line if you if go to the PartsPRO SE catalog and put in the part number NOS 99212.

I doesn't sound like you've ever bought or used a speedi-sleeve!

Okay, then how does a speedi-sleeve work? Don't you just get one that's the original outer diameter of the shaft, and the thickness of the wear depth, chunk off a piece, and stuff it in the worn spot?

This is a speedi-sleeve:

You choose it based on the diameter of the shaft, not the groove. If the groove is real deep, you can fill it with JB weld, and sand it smooth. Apply the sealer and drive on the sleeve. Sometimes you can set the new seal at a different spot and avoid the sleeve, but other times the shaft is pitted an it is impossible to get a good seal.

Here are the instructions, if you want to know more:
