hi my farmall M when it is road gear has a cough to it. its hard to explain with out hearing it but when i'm going down the road its not a constant running sound. just kinda sputters and coughs.

Three steps to better.
First try adjusting the load screw on the front bottom of the carb outward 1/2 turn at a time. After two full turns, if it is no better, put it back.
Next try the fuel floe test. If it has a drain on the bottom of the carb, try draining a stream of gas out of the carb into a clean can. it should run a stream 1/8" thick for more than a minute. If not there is a restriction in the fuel supply Screen at the carb, sediment bowl, or tank inlet.
If these all are OK, try an electrical tuneup. Plugs, points, condenser timing and checks for distributor shaft wear. JimN
