3-Point Conversion on M

You all know 3-point conversion's bolt up to the rear axle housing. Has anyone ever heard of cracking the housing with too much weight or during a good bounce? I like to use my M with a 4-row cultivator which can be a little bouncy going across the end rows while turning around.

Just curious.

We ran Super M with 4 row 3 point back in early seventys and often ran 60 hours week for several weeks in row with no problem. The 3 point was light years ahead of previous front mount in my opinion the SM had power steering and was a pleasure to run with 3 point.

I bought my Farmhand front loader (narrow front) from a guy who had it on a H. He had busted the casing on the H using the front loader. My father said he saw a M roll down a hill and hit a tree and bust the casing. A guy had just got off of it and did not set the brake.

Don't forget we used to mount corn pickers on M's and even H's. Also I know of at least one M that had a 234(I think that was the model of the last mounted IH picker IH made) mounted on it. Armand

Guy down the road from me broke the front end off a "new at the time" M while disking. He crossed over a furrow and the front end stopped but the tractor kept going. Broke the front end casting at the frame rails and folded the front wheels under.

I still have Super M with Saginaw I refered to in earlier post and it has even toted 4 row planter over several hundred acres (way too much weight) and Saginaw is still in excellent condition.
